  • The problem I found was ScarJo has a pretty unique sense of humor and comedy style. Her early indy movies are very off-beat, very quirky, not in-your-face funny. I thought for the most part SNL didn’t utilize that side of her enough apart from the Dinosaur Museum sketch which could have been great but they didn’t nail it.

  • Brendan Noël

I was in the audience of the Chris Hemsworth show back in March and loitered in the lobby of 30 Rock after the show. I saw most of the cast leave, including Taran Killam and Cobie Smulders. Maria Hill was in the building when Thor hosted the show and she did not appear in the Avengers sketch, so I’d think it’s probably a long shot she’ll ever appear on the show at this point. She and Killam have been together during his entire run on the show and not one cameo.

    • Oh, interesting to know that she was in the building at the time! Very interesting…

      • MCBAR

how come none of the other avengers made a cameo at all, even though the movie just came out you would expect some of the other cast members to show up, since some of them might no host in the near future, and why do most of the monologues include cast member run ons?

        • I was surprised as well. it might have been hard to sell against the big fight at the same time. Everyone expected ratings to be very low for this episode.

          • MCBAR

when i heard that she was hosting i knew that there would be some avengers sketch(low expections after the thor one earlier this year) and almost 100% sure some cameos isnt that a point in bringing back a host with a movie out and the other cast members have hosted or should be? come to think of it there wasnt too many cameos this year at all, why is it like that?

    • MCBAR

It could be that she doesn’t want to mix professional into personal: while she is married to a cast member maybe she doesn’t want to be on his turf … Has a cast members spouse ever cameoed before?

      • Brendan Noël

That’s very possible. I can’t really think of a lot of cases where an SNL cast member has a famous spouse or partner who isn’t famous for being an SNL cast member. Or I can only think of examples like Armisen and Elisabeth Moss where they met when she was there to do a cameo.

        • MCBAR

im guessing that is the story we have seen hosts had their spouses cameo but not cast members, its a bit of a shame but thats their lives. would have been super cool if she had came on.

          • I can’t think of any either. Don’t think Will Arnett ever popped up during Amy Poehler’s run.

          • Josh Mabe TheRacingSource

i came across this. Jimmy Fallon/Michael Buble episode in Season 37. Will Arnett is the back left. He did not appear at all in that episode until the Goodnights.

          • wow, good eye!!!

          • MCBAR

It is true that will arnett cameoed in the goodnights but Amy wasn’t a cast member then just a guest so it doesn’t count but good going on the research

          • Jason Lee

A bit of a cheat, but I believe that Tina Fey’s husband and former SNL co-worker, Jeff Richmond, popped up once or twice in sketches as a background singer. I’m specifically thinking of a sketch from several years ago that had a barbershop quartet on the NYC subway (I think Jason Bateman was the host). I can’t find the clip to verify, but I remember going “Hey, I think that’s Tina Fey’s husband!”

          • MCBAR

Yes you are correct. During season 30 when Jason Bateman hosted Jeff Richmond (Tina feys) husband did cameo in that sketch. Great research bit I don’t think it can compare to cobie smulders appearing in an avengers sketch

          • Jason Lee

Haha, yeah, a Cobie Smulders cameo would be great! It’d be easy for her too, I believe she finally lives in NY with Taran now that HIMYM is over.

  • Charles Bikle

I think Rich is right. Hosts (without a strong comedic background) seem to gravitate to the more mainstream SNL sketches like “Girlfriends” and “The Californians” which are often, the weakest sketches. I remember we seemed to have this phenomenon back in the day with the “Cheerleaders” sketches with Ferril and Oteri.

    • agreed. I bet it’s also less scary to do a sketch that you know a good part of the crowd is going to immediately respond to.

  • Charles Bikle
  • Josh Mabe TheRacingSource

Do you think we will see any alumni the rest of the season do cameos

    • I would think so.With Trainwreck coming out over the summer, maybe another appearance of Bill Hader?

      • MCBAR

i have listened to most of your shows and whenever alumni/cameos are brought up, there is never any mention of will forte. is he not expected or not wanted?

        • I love Will F. LMOE is probably my favorite new show of the year. I think we discussed him a few times on the podcast. I just don’t think SNL thinks of him as an all-star alum, and I’m not sure why.

          • MCBAR

it could be but did not notice it from the recent shows, he might have not been an all star cast member but he has had many memorable characters and was great as either a straight man or the crazy guy, and now that he has a show out dont you think that would put him next to andy samberg who hosted last year?

          • I’m with you. I love me some Forte!

          • MCBAR

i want to know your opinion of his macgruber sketches, did you like/unlike them? was it too much madlibby?

          • Liked the first 10, then tuned it out.

          • MCBAR

Which of his characters would u want to see

          • I’d like to see James Carville show up to Update.

          • MCBAR

Makes more sense stefon is too much expected and won’t be as much of a surprise as carville or any other characters

          • Josh Mabe TheRacingSource

yeah but if it’s his first appearance that night it would be a big surprise and they audience would be thrilled

          • Charles Bikle

One of my favorite Will Forte sketches (from Tim & Eric):

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-m7mBSw-5k

      • Josh Mabe TheRacingSource

        hopefully as Stefon

        • MCBAR

I think stefon has come on enough times now that he’s not on the show it will be more memorable if he does something else. Maybe he’ll do something that has to do with a cast member leaving

          • Josh Mabe TheRacingSource

as of now no cast members have been confirmed to be leaving although it’s a good possibility that Kenan might

  • MCBAR

also even though rich and rob didnt make a podcast for taraji p hendersons show, what did u like/dislike about it? how were her impressions?…

  • MCBAR

Which cast member of Saturday Night Live became a U.S. Senator?

    Joe Piscopo/Dan Aykroyd/Jane Curtin/Al Franken?

(this was posted today on Trivia today)

  • Josh Mabe TheRacingSource

Are Rob and Rich going to do every episode together like they have the last three

  • Josh Mabe TheRacingSource

Let me word it this way: Is Rich going to be in studio with Rob every episode from now on

    • Trying to figure out logistics. why do you ask?

      • Josh Mabe TheRacingSource

I was just curious, i kinda miss Rob’s old studio

  • Josh Mabe TheRacingSource

Rich, I’d like to get your thoughts on the Taraji P. Henson episode. I still don’t understand why they brought Billy Crystal in to be the dad of Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy. Doesn’t make sense. Also, do you think Darrell Hammond is going to continue playing Bill Clinton or do you think they’re going to have a current cast member take that spot eventually

  • Jason Lee

I think the Kate as Justin Bieber in the cold open was a reference to the fact that Mayweather and Bieber are seemingly besties in real life (apparently Bieber has been present at several of Mayweather’s fights as part of his entourage): http://www.24urban.com/uploads/records/7jPFSVC11WME5Y4IUJXx6QjwagRDR5SLJLTkXhpeimage.jpg
