Good Neighbors be killing it the last couple of weeks, reality house was amazing.

    • cburger

Agreed. At the rate Good Neighbor is going, I wouldn’t mind having them oversee “Weekend Update” (with Bobby/Beck/Bayer as co-anchors) next season. It would, hopefully, be a return to the Norm McDonald days.

      • Matthew Gregg

I agree Beck Bennett is a natural for Weekend Update and have been wondering with all the changes and inconsistencies why they haven’t given him the position.

        • Hmmm. I’m going to respectfully disagree with you guys on this one. I don’t see KM or BB having the moves to be a WU anchor.
I hadn’t thought about this before, but has Beck done a WU correspondent yet?

          • Matthew Gregg

I honestly don’t think he has but tbf I don’t watch every week so I can’t be certain. I think after those AT&T commercials it just seemed natural to me seeing him sit at the WU desk as it already had me picturing him in that mindset as the AT&T guy which is somewhat unfair but is likely how many perceive him also. I actually thought he was initially cast to fill that role, especially given his dry, deadpanned delivery he gives whenever he talks.

          • MCBAR

beck never was on weekend update not as himself or as a guest but he got a cold open last week

          • cburger

Kyle Mooney, like Cecily Strong, is too valuable and versatile to be saddled with an anchor position on Weekend Update.
I cannot recall Beck appearing on WU, but I would guess that he’s done it once.

What happened to your bar, Rich?

    • moved to upstairs for this podcast, out of deference to my wife!

  • Captain Chicken was amazing just because Chris Hemsworth interacting with the chicken was so damn funny. You could hear the audience was eating it up (the sketch not the chicken) especially at the part CH knelt by the chair and asked the chicken to look at him, and he was playing it up on the fly really really well.

    • yeah, I wondered if the chicken handler was supposed to have the chicken turn at that point. Either way, it created a very fun moment. that’s why it’s still LIVE!

      • Suzi!

After that she did turn, so I’m guessing the chicken didn’t follow directions at first.

  • Charles Bikle

Kate McKinnon is definitely the MVP of SNL (she even does most of the promos now with the host) – I would say she’s this season’s Kristin Wiig, but technically I think she’s this season’s Fred Armisen (or what Fred Armisen should have been).

    • Matthew Gregg

I disagree I think Taran AND Kate are the Co-MvP’s of SNL. While Kate is good at doing her crazy, one off characters, she just isn’t as versatile as Taran. If anything Taran is Fred Armisen, albeit a much better version, as he is utilized in several sketches almost every SNL. While I do think the impact of losing Kate would be huge, losing Taran would also be significant.

      • I agree with both of you, they are both such clutch players and go to cast members. Although I think KM is being groomed to be the next star in a way that TK (for reasons I don’t understand) is not.

      • Charles Bikle

Taran is great on the show, but I think he’s been eclipsed by McKinnon – maybe that’ll change, but aside from Jebediah Atkinson, not too many recurring characters and I’m surprised he’s not doing more impressions on the show.

        • MCBAR

taran also falls into either a straight guy or more energetic. the character from the brother2brother sketch is very similar to the magician from the end of blake sheltons episode, check it out!

          • Charles Bikle

Yeah, he’s definitely good at the support roles and the “eclectic straight man” roles- with all of his impressions, I’m surprised he doesn’t try to work with Jay Phoenix more doing more celebrity based pieces – also has me wondering why the writers don’t write more pieces to their strengths as impressionists.

      • Suzi!

I would love to see more of Teren. He is the standout among the men.

  • I just came across this and remembered that @richtack:disqus brought it up on the show. I didn’t see it myself (I skip past commercials) but supposedly Amex wanted their Mindy Kaling ad to air as close as possible to the spoof.
