i didnt have a chance to watch the episode yet, was just curious if the aidy bryant broken arms charachter is a repeat from seth rogens episode? and how long has it been that we had kyle mooney and beck bennet do their thing, plus what happened to beck bennet he seems to be replaced by pete davidson

  • MCBAR

is riblet meant to be a real update guest or just there to calm down peoples complaints with che&jost

    • Matthew Gregg

I just thought it was SNL being meta and acknowledging Che’s done a lackluster job all season.

      • MCBAR

maybe but at the same time they have been giving him a bunch of guests that jost didn’t get yet. also most of the guests are made up and they are not doing any impersonations as much as previous seasons

      • MCBAR

would you want to see che and leslie jones in an update segment

        • Matthew Gregg

Not particularly, tbh. not a huge fan of her or Pete Davidson.

  • MCBAR

also who would you say has done the most Live from new yorks in a cold open this season so far?
    Tarran Killam
    Jay Pharoh
    Kenan thompson

  • Matthew Gregg

Kyle Mooney was all over this episode, glad to see it. As for that ISIS sketch I was glad that they went there as I was feeling those Toyota commercials were extremely awkward and was topical to the circumstances are going on. Loved that Say what you want to say video sketch so much, truly the highlight of the episode imo.

  • MCBAR

i meant as opposed to her and jost, when jebedia finished his segment last time che tried to shake his hand and tarran refused they made it more of a game with che then weekend update. so i say enjoy what it is

  • Charles Bikle

I think that with one-hit wonder hosts like Dakota, the writers/performers on SNL don’t really deliver their A-game.

  • Ben

Anyone else think that it was kinda crazy/ballsy for them to do the “Alabama is full of incest” joke during the Ruth Bader Ginsburg part given that Alabama Shakes was performing and the lead singer even had a tattoo of Alabama on her arm?

    • Sam Paxton

I absolutely noticed this as well. That joke stuck out like a sore thumb.

  • Ben

I feel like this “moat” business is waaaay overanalyzed. Then again, Rich has seen like 100x the goodbyes that I have and can probably spot when it looks “off”. But why can’t it just be that there were a ton of people on stage and Dakota talked to the musicians first because they were closest to her?

    • Charles Bikle

There was also a “moat” on the Beverly Hillbillies – Jedd Clampett and Jethro had very different ideas on how to spend that oil money and that tension is very visible in the end credits when they’re all waving goodbye.

    • Sam Paxton

I disagree — Rich has a point with this stuff. I’ll always remember the Peyton Manning episode. The cast was fighting to shake his hand, and you could read some of their lips telling him how good of a job he did. When someone knocks it out of the park, you can see the praise almost immediately.

  • Matthew Gregg

Bobby is a HUGE self identified nerd, I think that’s why he gave the Vulcan salute because Leonard dying is a big deal and he’s such a big fan. I actually think they had this sketch in the periphery as an unexplored idea and they green lit last minute when Leonard died. No way was that just coincidental.

  • Chris England

Thanks for getting rid of creepy beard dude early.

  • Sam Paxton

You guys should check out Seth Meyers’ podcast with Bill Simmons for more on the 40th. I’ll only address one part of it here: In addition to the Kyle Mooney/Good Neighbor thing that got cut, apparently there were three packages that were created that also didn’t run. Two were on the musical guests (one for the first 20 years and one for the second 20 years). But the big revelation that I pray will see the light of day is that there was a package created for the best of “10 to 1” sketches. I wish they would fill one of the remaining off weeks or even the SNL Vintage slot at 9 by taking the unused packages, any rehearsal/backstage footage, and anything from the now-famous afterparty and giving us the ultimate bonus episode. I’m dying to see that “10 to 1” package. DYING.

With regards to whether Kenan and Bobby are Star Trek fans, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the last time Leonard Nimoy appeared on the show to show up Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto on Weekend Update, the two played Trekkies in the audience.
