Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones Book Club | Spoiler Discussion of Episode 605, ‘The Door’

Listen to the Podcast

Welcome to the Game of Thrones Book Club, the Post Show Recaps podcast that talks about HBO’s Emmy-winning series from the perspective of those who have read George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels and related material. You are listening and proceeding further at your own risk.

This week, Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Terri Schwartz (@Terri_Schwartz) wave goodbye to Hodor and say hello to a ton of new theories, thanks to the action-packed events of “The Door.” What does Bran’s role in naming Hodor mean for other areas of history he may have impacted? Will we ever learn the Three-Eyed Raven’s identity? Beyond that story, Josh and Terri dive into the Iron Fleet’s next move, the impending return of the Blackfish, and much more.

Send questions for the next Book Club using our feedback form, over e-mail, or by tweeting at Josh and Terri.

  • What will be the first action of Blackfish ? To kill Walder Frey or to attack the Bolton?
I would go with the first.

The guy in the video with Kristian Nairn is Turpster from the Yogscast. Kristian Nairn is a fan of the Yogscast so I am about 99.9% sure that he was in on the gag.

    • GeekFurious

Yeah, he was definitely in on the gag.

So great to have Terri back! So sad that Terri is leaving again…

I hope the girl that hates the books from last week doesn’t come back .. she really turned me off to last week podcast when she said that the kingsmoot is boring and the illogical miss that is Brienne story on the show is somehow better than her story in the book plz put Antonio on the next week book club podcast .. thanks

    • GeekFurious

I am usually a fan of her perspective but… her lack of reverence for the books did not work for me on a book club podcast. And while I was puzzled by all that Greyjoy stuff my first read-through (like, why is this even here? I want to get back to Jon!) on subsequent readings, I’ve become a big fan of that whole plot.

      I respect Jessica’s opinions.

She doesn’t hate the books, she loves the books. She was right, not every story from books is fun, many of them are boring. Respect other opinions.

      • GeekFurious

Nothing she said on the podcast tells me she loves the books… only that she’s read them (maybe). And respecting opinions works both ways. She gives her opinion and we give ours about her opinion. Kane expressed an opinion and a desire.

In any event, as I tweeted earlier today, saying GOT is telling a superior story than the books is like saying the Cliff’s Notes is better than Shakespeare. It demonstrates a lack of respect for the source material. And since I think highly of it, I have the right to not respect her opinion on a podcast dedicated to the source material.

        • Any opinion should be respected. But we aren’t entitled to agree with any opinion.
Opinions are based on subjective perceptions.

I’m pretty pumped that the Blackfish is back and we may get some of the “Siege of RiverRun” stuff, which I really enjoyed in feast. But I feel like it only really works, if Jaime somehow gets over there to do his thing and possibly meet up with Brienne/Pod again. Not sure how they’d get him there at this point since he seems pretty entrenched in the KL Story.

    • GeekFurious

I think something in tonight’s episode will drive him there very quickly.
