What are the chances Meryn Trant is going to take the place of Raff in Arya’s eventual Mercy storyline? The breadcrumbs seem to lead there, considering she name-dropped him in her list in Episode 2 and he was just sent to Braavos to watch over Mace Tyrell.

    • jon dunn

Arya is killing Trant this season. Obvious.

      Looking forward to it.

      • Chris Arrao

I agree Arya will for sure kill Trant. The only problem I have is how obvious and perfect it seems. It feels like oh of course Cersei is sending Trant to Braavos how else will Arya get revenge this season. It is to right on the nose for my liking.

        • @Wharfrat1625

I thinks its gonna be a terrific nod to Daeron and Cat from the Canals. I’m really pumped for this encounter.

          • PHug

Read Arya’s new chapter in Winds of Winter titled “Mercy”

I imagine the writers would use that as Arya’s way of killing Trant and save it for an Episode 9 or 10.

The Mercy chapter works better than Cat killing Daeron because Daeron was just a random Night’s watch deserter.

          • @Wharfrat1625

Yea I read it but thanks for the heads up! I guess I was thinking more about the timing and her whole casual “Daeron is dead…….someone slit his throat and pushed him into the canal”. I feel like that’s how she’s going to explain it to No one after Trant gets iced. So excited to see how it plays out either way!

They should call him Meryn Trout because he’ll sleep with the fishes soon.

  • jon dunn

So R+L=J is just completely open to everyone now, huh? I saw it published openly on so many sites this week.

    • @Wharfrat1625

I feel like its been published in every other article about the show since like last year. It’s gotten to the point where I feel like George probbly loathes seeing it come to fruition given how widespread and popularized it’s become.

  • JC Mac

Josh and Terri – I am passing this link along to you in hopes it will be something you both discuss during the Book Club Podcast. I found it very interesting and something subtle I missed. There are two other attached links to this article you may want to check out as well.

    • HomerBrannon1

Yeah, that “bitch, please” look from Littlefinger says it all. He might not know about Jon Snow, but he knows Lyanna willing ran off with Rhaegar.

  • Sophia

My question is: with all the R+L=J clues dropped in this episode, do you think it’s possible that we’ll have confirmation of who are Jon Snow’s parents this season?

I always assumed it would be something for season/book 6 but maybe it will be important information for Jon coming back/resurrection/wake up/whatever (because I’m taking it for granted that he’s not staying dead) and I think there’s a chance they’ll do that this season. (The cliffhanger of his potential dead and then return may not work so well if it’s done between seasons since it will be hard to hide the fact that Kit Harrington will be filming the new season.)

    • LosPollosHermanos

I think they’ll officially confirm is near the end of the series. Likely the last season.

But so many non-readers know it now – they either figured it out themselves or saw it all over the internet this week

  • SamMuray

No play button and no download link either. Am I missing something or what? :P

    • LosPollosHermanos

It’s not up yet, this is just a placeholder for questions.

      Hopefully it goes up tomorrow.

  • Cashius_Flay

We’ve had numerous references to Greyscale in the recent episodes and there are theories that greyscale is linked to the Others in some way…
With Shireen being a big part of the story now, do we think this could have something to do with the others (I’m sure the intention isn’t to burn her, but maybe as a lure / trap)
There is a back story on how the others need a female child, which is why Craster only gives away the Male children.

  • Michael Eales

So with Barry the bold now shockingly dead, is the show setting up Tyrion to replace Barristan when Daenarys goes with Drogon at the end of the series and step in as ‘hand of the queen’

    • Michael Eales

Or will they just skip the battle of meeren all together and just follow Dany and maybe have tyrion go with her on Drogons back ?

  • Joel Rainey

Josh does Rob know or at least have a guess of R+L=J. He sure danced around it in the last recap

    • Mike Giangreco

He’s watched comicbookgirl19s epic histories, so yeah, he knows.

  • dane

I think it’s pretty likely the “battle of ice” is taking place later this season. Based on what has been set up in dialogue right from the beginning of the season, and based on the teaser clip suggesting Stannis’ army marches south in next week’s episode, I don’t see how they could effectively save it for season 6.

So my question is, of all the storylines going on this season, which do you think will be adapting source material from The Winds of Winter?

  • dane

Do you think Sansa’s crossover with the Bolton/Theon story will make more sense in the context of the next book? Will she be heading for Winterfell in a similar fashion in the books, or is it a complete 180° the show is taking with her?

  • jon dunn

Episode 9 is called The Dance of Dragons

I think Josh wins the argument that Dany doesn’t fly away at the end of episode 10

  • Meren Roberts

Hi, can anyone recommend any other good podcasts that compare the books to the show?? i love this one, but need a fix earlier in the week.
