never leave Harlan alive — so you might as well join Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Antonio Mazzaro (@acmazzaro) LIVE as they recap the final episode of JUSTIFIED!

Josh and Antonio will be live right after the series finale, “The Promise,” to talk about the final fates of Raylan Givens, Boyd Crowder, Ava Crowder, Avery Markham, Wynn Duffy, the Marshals, and everyone else, as they bid farewell to the Kentucky crime series.

But it’s not Josh and Antonio’s final JUSTIFIED podcast! The duo will return in the near future for one last look at what JUSTIFIED accomplished over its six seasons, and their final takeaways from one of their favorite shows.

I see them long hard times to come without Justified :c

  • Brendan Fitzpatrick

In the deep dark hills, of Eastern Kentucky, that’s the place where I trace my bloodline. And It’s there that I read, on a hill side gravestone, “You’ll never leave Harlan alive.”…

  • EmilyKaz

Ok, that finale was perfect! So happy they went with a happy ending.

    “We watched Justified together.”

Going back to the scene with Boyd & Eva in the Bennett shed, there is a great interview with Walt Goggins on EW posted last night where he said that scene was edited. Originally, the scene also showed that Boyd knew he was dry firing at Eva which changes everything for me in that his intent was never to kill Eva – she was the outlaw’s one weak spot (besides Raylan)…

Questions for the wrap up show. Just answer whatever you can.
    1. A.Which character had the most compelling arc over the series?
    B. Raylan… did he seem to change from the “justified” gunslinger of the pilot all at once or was it a gradual thing we didn’t notice? I see Raylan as much the same person as he was at the beginning. But, I think I’m missing his catharsis from Harlan County.
    2. Where is Wynn Duffy now?
    3. I read an interview somewhere with Walton Higgins and he said Boyd knew the gun was empty when he shot at Ava. He claims that Boyd would not have killed Ava. What do you think? She certainly thought he would, or she wouldn’t have shot him.
    4. Character who you wish the writers didn’t kill. Mine is Arlo. Or maybe Aunt Helen, if I had to pick one.
    5. Harlan is in decline throughout the series, does that correlate with Antonio’s knowledge of the place? My uncle who is from Virginia says Harlan County is known for moonshine, weed, meth and oxy, with the drug of choice changing over time. It makes me sad that the real people in Harlan have such tough lives, if this is true. (And, I bet none of them are as great looking as the cast of this show.)
    6. Do you ship Ava and Raylan, or did you ever?
    7. So I guessed at one point Ava might be pregnant, but I thought she would use that to control Boyd. Did you suspect this ending? When did Ava stop loving Boyd..season 5 when he didn’t help her in prison?

  • Brendan Fitzpatrick

Mostly because it’s what I predicted and wanted, but Wynn totally has the money right? And helped Ava escape? “He’s been rumored to have been seen surfing on a beach in Fiji”. That has to be the answer. Also, awesome to see Ellen Mae again in that flash-by scenario scene. That was a really cool call back.

  • Brendan Fitzpatrick

So, with the way we left things, we could totally get that Loretta McCready, “Backwoods Weeds” spin-off now right? She’s in control of everything in Harlan now, or should be.

  • Brendan Fitzpatrick

Please Rank the “Big Bad’s” of the five seasons now that we have Avery Markum in the mix, as a completed character.

  • Brendan Fitzpatrick

How amazing is it, that through 6 seasons, we did not lose a single one of these Major Characters? Raylan, Winona, Ava, Boyd, Art, Tim, Rachel, Duffy.. Still All Alive and well. (As far as we know “four years in the future”. I know we all expected to at least lose one of the big 3 (Raylan, Boyd, Ava) and 1 of the Secondary Mains, this season.

  • Brendan Fitzpatrick

Isn’t there a small chance, thinking about it, that the child is Raylan’s? They did have that one night, in season 6, where they slept together…

Because you love Sam Elliot . Just a reminder to watch him play general Buford in the movie Gettysburg. He has a killer speech about needing to save the high ground. And, he fights like hell to secure it for the Union army.
(But maybe only civil war buffs will really care, he is quite good in it.)

    • Josh Wigler

Used to love this movie. Haven’t seen it in a decade or so. FIX BAYONETS!

      • Brendan Fitzpatrick

FRIGGIN LOVE GETTYSBURG. Sam Elliot and Tom Berenger and Martin Sheen. SO Goood! Also, for Peak Sam Eliot, check out Tombstone. Virgil Earp is a badass.

          I’m your huckleberry.

Addendum to an earlier post : Does the show lose anything, as the type of show it is, by not killing one of the secondary, major characters we’ve cared about from the beginning, Art, Tim, or Rachel?

Great podcast, but not knowing he lifted a dead-man’s hat… I unlike you guys, wasn’t looking at my watch every 3 minutes, so I was pretty convinced that Raylan was gonna kill Boyd. Boyd’s refusal to cooperate made the monkeys in Raylan’s head quiet down and do the right thing. And later I totally thought both Boon and Raylan died. Would’ve given Boon a satisfying ending imo.

Ava was looking as fine as she ever has in her final scene. I wonder if she knew she was pregnant, because she hasn’t tried to leverage it to save herself (…and the baby), which would be out of character. So she probably didn’t.

BACK TO THE PREACHING for Boyd was great, he is doing well! When the camera first saw him retelling his tale, I wondered if he was talking to a media producer, writing a book or a script. 🙂

I got chills when Boyd questioned the motives of why Raylan came personally for the visit. I trully believed he would see through the lie. Mad genius that Boyd is. I thought Raylan screwed Ava unwittingly.

Our favourite tanning enthusiast was left with a doggy-style van. Were those just precautions to get out of KY alive, or more likely to mask scent to the hounds while getting the money? Did Wynn steal it from underneath trigger happy uncle Z?

Justified wasn’t even remotely on my radar until y’all started the podcast. So I would be remiss if I didn’t give a HUGE thank you! (Not only from me, but also my family and friends I’ve dragged into this amazing show)

I do have a couple of questions for the final podcast

-Do you think the show tried a bit too hard to vilify Boyd this season? I personally think that he already did a good enough job to show he was the bad guy. The scenes had power (Dewey, Carl, the driver he shot) but were they maybe overkill?

-I was wondering about the final scene (between raylan and boyd). Do you think raylan lied for Ava or for little Zachariah? I feel like the only real threat to Ava that Boyd can be comes from the crime and outlaw lifestyle he chooses to live. I don’t believe her life would ever be threatened by him personally (based on the knowledge from interviews that Boyd knew he was out of bullets). That being said, I know a huge part of this show has been getting out of Harlan and getting Harlan out of the people themselves.
So could it make sense that this lie is giving Zachariah a chance out of this life that they just never had?

-Just a little side note, I thought it was adorable that they dressed Zachariah up to look like a mini Boyd.

Thanks again guys! Already looking forward to the Justified lives podcast!!
