The Leftovers 2017: Season 3 Episode 5 - It's A Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World

Listen to the Podcast:

It’s those guys you were talking about! Or at least those guys who talk about the show you’re talking about. Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Antonio Mazzaro (@acmazzaro) are back to recap all the Matt-ness on naked display in this week’s madcap masterpiece episode of The Leftovers.
What’s that you say? God hit you? Fear not, we’ve got you covered, as this podcast delves deep into Laurie’s protective reticence, Matt’s unrestrained fervor, and what the overlapping space between the two means for life, and this series, going forward. And, oh, yeah, also the butts. This podcast episode definitely gets into all the butts and nudity and sex stuff. Again, fear not.

You can find a roundabout translation of the opening on Reddit:

I’m the only hope, the last defense of a species about to go extinct. The “warlocks” warned us, these clairvoyant sages saw the truth. They said the creatures would come 7 years after the first ones were taken, 7 years after the departure. We were blind to the gods. We are now on the edge of the ravine. On the edge of destruction. When this monster is born we are done for, because this monster will be born to end us. 7 heads and 7 flaming mouths. We have one last hope, the egg. From the warlock maps I found it, hidden in a nest, in a volcano in the sea. Thank god for the technology, [inaudible] the nuclear weapon. To break the fragile shell and melt the demons inside. God, may this missile fly straight and find the nest in the volcano. And hopefully this egg wouldn’t have hatched yet, and let it destroy it before it destroys the world.

Oh boy this fits with my theory that I just posted how exciting

Leftovers opening with theme from “The Ropers”.

This could be something worth following up on- when I was listening to the news broadcast about the nuclear strike, I vaguely heard the newscaster mention that the island in the South Pacific was volcanic.

What are the chances, do you think, that a world-ending-like event will happen on the 7th anniversary, but it will be unclear if it’s the end of the world or not? Perhaps the nuclear strike might trigger volcanoes in that world, or something of the like.

Severe lack of the Departure Theme was disappointing.

This episode reminded me of the scene at the end of the Ten Commandments when Moses went to the mountain to receive the word of God and the Hebrews have an orgy and worship the golden calf.

Well I hope HBO got their nudity quota out of the way. Still a good episode, even though it changed the way I see Frasier forever.

It feels like this may be Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt’s swan song. His conviction caused him to overplay his hand and seemed to push the disciples back to Law-ree’s logical viewpoint which evens up the playing field in the impending battle of wills for Kevin’s fate. I’ve got Senior, Grace, and Matt in one corner and John, Laurie, and Michael in the other while Nora and VHJG hang squarely in the balance.
